Warriors Game

Warriors Game

On July 3rd 2022 I had the opportunity to go to the Warriors vs Tigers game, I was lucky enough to have my friend be chosen as well. My friend was Brookie.

On the day of the game my Dad dropped me off to where we were supposed to meet up which was Glen Innes School. When I got there I stood at the gate where everybody else was. My dad was on the other side of the road waiting for us to leave so that he can make sure I’m safe. It took around 5 minutes and my Friend has arrived. She came to stand near me and we were bursting with excitement. After 15 minutes of Standing and Waiting Mr Herlihy took attendance and we were off. Brookie and I went and sat at the 2 front seats of the bus. We sat and talked the entire way. The ride took around 20 minutes.

We were on our way to Mt Smart Stadium. When we were near the stadium we saw a ton of people walking. Once we got to the Stadium we had to find a parking spot which wasn’t really hard because we were in a bus. We had to wait in the bus for a little while. After waiting for what felt like hours we were allowed to get off the bus.

We went inside and we all got a free warriors flag. I was waving it a lot and we weren’t even in our seats. On our way to our seats there were performers drumming and it was very loud. We stood there and watched them perform for a little bit. When they stopped we then started to find our seats, we went in and found our seats after about 10 minutes. When we were getting into our seats there were a lot of switching seats happening.

After 20 minutes of switching seats we finally got our seats sorted out. I was able to sit next to Brookie which I was really excited about. We were waiting and the sun was blinding. We were watching for about 45 minutes to an hour and then the Game started. We got drinks which were really refreshing because the sun was making it very hot. We were watching and waving our flags like crazy. Brookie and I were cheering a lot. We weren’t even 15 minutes in the game and my throat was already sore. My arm was also sore from waving the flag up in the air.

The Warriors were in the lead by a lot. I already had a feeling in my gut that the Warriors were gonna win. Every time the Warriors got a Try the crowd would cheer like crazy, but when the Tigers got a Try the stadium would not be very happy. We were all very hungry so when the food arrived we were all very excited and happy. Brookie wasn’t as hungry because she just finished eating lollies in front of my face.

In conclusion after watching intensely until the end the Warriors won. The scores were 22-2. We were cheering so loud our voice cracked. I was so happy at the end. I was also very grateful that I even had the chance to go.

Trip To Tonga Recount

Trip To Tonga

July 2019 My mum, my brother and I went to Tonga for a Family Reunion. We all packed our bags the night before and went to sleep early. We woke up at around 5-6 am because our flight was at 9 am. My dad drove us to the airport, when we got to the airport we bought some food and put it in our bag for the flight. I was very excited and Impatient. That was my first time on an airplane, but not my first time at the airport.

Finally it was time to leave, my dad waved us goodbye and I was kinda sad because I wouldn’t be able to see my dad for two whole weeks. When we got on the plane I got the window seat which was very exciting. I saw there was a small TV with headphones so I decided to watch Paw Patrol, since I was 7 years old I had so much curiosity about the tv shows but Paw Patrol was the only tv show I was familiar with. When the plane took off I was watching my show while eating the food that was in the bag.

I slept for about an hour and a half then woke up busting to go to the bathroom. My mum took my brother and I to the bathroom, when we came back I just started watching my show again. I fell asleep and my mum woke me up to say that we were in Tonga, I was so excited.

My cousins from tonga picked us up and took us to their house since that was where we were staying. When we got to the house there was already some warm traditional food on the table.

Rotoroa Island

On the 17th of October the year 6-8 kids from Glen Taylor School got an awesome opportunity to go to Rotoroa Island. We got there by a ferry, the ferry trip was around an hour long. We learnt about the different creatures underneath the sand at Home bay. My group only seemed to find sandflies/sandhoppers, what we also found were different types of beautiful shells. We then went for a swim at Mens bay. Then we went for a hike and learnt about some new birds. From that trip I can name 5-8 native birds in New Zealand. The Trip was from 8am-6pm.

Here is a photo from the trip.

Why Are Cultural Celebrations Important At School

Why Are Cultural Celebration Important At School?

We need Cultural Celebrations because it gives us the chance to learn more about other cultures and what they do or what they did. This week was Maori Language Week and to celebrate we did weaving. I learned that weaving and carving takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. When we learn about other cultures it actually becomes fun to learn about it and do the activities.

When we meet new people they are probably from different cultures. Sometimes they can wear different, look different, talk differently and might smell different. Those are because they are different. They have a different accent but that is natural.

When we are learning about a certain culture it can be your culture. Learning about your culture might sound easy but there is actually a lot you can learn. When you are doing research about your own culture there is actually a ton of stuff you can learn, you can also learn a lot from your parents. Most of my research was from my parents, there are a lot of things that google can get wrong so I am thankful that my parents were there to correct my errors. My ancestors did many things I would have never learned if it wasn’t for my parents.

Lastly we should have cultural celebrations because it gives us the chance to embrace our culture, learn more about people and what is happening in their country.

LCS TLW

This week we split into three groups for Tongan Language Week, the three groups were Tapa’i Ngatu, ii Making and TeuTeu Fakatonga with the lose (Rose). I was in Room 11 doing the Tapa’i Ngatu. I did mine with Monique, first we used boiled flowers to make the pattern by smearing it around our sheet. After 1 day we left it to dry. Next we painted over the lines with black ink. Again we waited 1 day for the ink to dry. Now we are using some dye to color in the rest of the Tapa’i Ngatu.

Plants

For science this week we got flowers from Pak n save and some food colouring. We poured some water into a tall cup. After that we added our Red food coloring. We cut the stem shorter and put it into the cup filled with water and food coloring. Then we waited 2 days later. 2 days later the color of the flower turned mostly red. At the beginning the flower was white. Then the food coloring made our flower turn red. That is called transpiration.
