Why Are Cultural Celebrations Important At School

Why Are Cultural Celebration Important At School?

We need Cultural Celebrations because it gives us the chance to learn more about other cultures and what they do or what they did. This week was Maori Language Week and to celebrate we did weaving. I learned that weaving and carving takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. When we learn about other cultures it actually becomes fun to learn about it and do the activities.

When we meet new people they are probably from different cultures. Sometimes they can wear different, look different, talk differently and might smell different. Those are because they are different. They have a different accent but that is natural.

When we are learning about a certain culture it can be your culture. Learning about your culture might sound easy but there is actually a lot you can learn. When you are doing research about your own culture there is actually a ton of stuff you can learn, you can also learn a lot from your parents. Most of my research was from my parents, there are a lot of things that google can get wrong so I am thankful that my parents were there to correct my errors. My ancestors did many things I would have never learned if it wasn’t for my parents.

Lastly we should have cultural celebrations because it gives us the chance to embrace our culture, learn more about people and what is happening in their country.

This week we split into three groups for Tongan Language Week, the three groups were Tapa’i Ngatu, ii Making and TeuTeu Fakatonga with the lose (Rose). I was in Room 11 doing the Tapa’i Ngatu. I did mine with Monique, first we used boiled flowers to make the pattern by smearing it around our sheet. After 1 day we left it to dry. Next we painted over the lines with black ink. Again we waited 1 day for the ink to dry. Now we are using some dye to color in the rest of the Tapa’i Ngatu.
